Michael Dow

Michael read Music at Christ’s College, Cambridge, where he held a Choral Scholarship and was Principal Conductor of the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra. He is currently Director of Music at Stockport Grammar School, a position he has held for over 20 years, having previously taught Academic Music at Chetham’s School of Music and Caterham School in Surrey. In his role at Stockport Grammar School he has led Music tours across the UK and Europe, including performances in several European cathedrals such as St Mark’s Venice. He has also been Director of Music at St Mary’s Church, Bowdon for 12 years and with whom he has performed in many cathedrals across the UK.

He has been a regular guest conductor of Northern Baroque Orchestra for over 20 years and has conducted a number of orchestras across Greater Manchester, including Stockport Symphony Orchestra, Cheshire Sinfonia and High Peak Orchestra. He was Musical Director of Marple Choral Society for several years and has directed choirs such as Chorale and Manchester Chorale in recent years. He has worked on the BBC Daily Service programme as a bass singer and musical director on several occasions and also recorded live radio broadcasts with the choir of St Mary’s Bowdon.
